My Travels Through Peru: Lima and Cusco
October 2015 was when I took my first solo trip abroad. I chose to visit Peru and I did not regret it! I was in Lima and Cusco during my stay. If you’re a sucker for handicrafts and an admirer of textiles, this is a place for you. The boisterous colours and patterns are eye-catching. The scenery is top notch with mountains and tropical flowers.

I had the opportunity to visit an indigenous community of women that dyed and weaved alpaca wool. It was really neat to see their products being made first hand. Although they did not speak Spanish (they spoke an indigenous Amerind language called Quechua), they were super friendly and humble.

The build up to the visit up to Machu Picchu was well worth it. You may see pictures of it, but they do not do the real thing justice. It’s like a fairy tale! The only thing I would add is that I would prepare for mosquitoes!

Overall, I really enjoyed my time there and will definitely go back in the future to explore more of the country and revisit other parts! If you make your way to South America, do not leave Peru off your travel list.
